Recipe of the Week: Bami Goreng from Indonesia

Recipe of the Week: Bami Goreng from Indonesia:
Time for the Recipe of the Week: Indonesia! I figured that we should go with a recipe that uses accessible ingredients (though you may have to go to an Asian specialty food store), and is very typical of the country – Bami Goreng! This recipe is originally from Indochef.com, and is made in just a matter of minutes; keep it simple by having all of the ingredients sliced and diced ahead of time and ready to go in prep bowls.

Serves 2 (as a main dish), or 4 (as a side)

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons oil

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, smashed and minced

1 small piece pork fillet, about 100 grams, diced

1 cup small prawns (peeled and deveined)

2 teaspoons Sambal Oelek (chilli-garlic sauce)

1 teaspoon Trassi (shrimp paste)

1 carrot, peeled and thinly sliced

1 small leek, white part only, sliced thinly

4 cups Chinese egg noodles, prepared according to package directions

3 tablespoons Kecap Manis (Indonesian soy sauce)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Chopped peanuts, to serve

Instructions:

Heat the oil in a work and add the onion and garlic – cook for one minute. Add the meat, prawns, shrimp paste, Sambal Oelek, and Trassi, and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until meat is cooked through. Add the carrot and leek and cook for another 4 minutes, stirring often. Add the noodles and Kecap Manis, and salt and pepper to taste, and stir-fry for another 4 minutes. Serve immediately, top with chopped peanuts.
